Season 1, Episode 1: Getting Started

This week week, I dive into a self-made challenge to write at least five days a week and a new project to help me start developing a consistent writing habit. I haven't written much over the last three years, and I'd like to change that. I'll talk about what hurdles I ran into and what helped me work toward my goal.

Season 1, Episode 2: Struggling to Stay Focused

Week two of the writing experiment has brought loads of distractions. Finding ways to stay focused and knowing when I just need a day off to rest is a battle. Somehow words are still making it onto the page and ideas are simmering amidst hauling rocks and attempting to repair sprinkler systems.

Season 1, Episode 3: Making Some Progress

I feel like I'm finally starting to get into the right frame of mind for this project. I'm getting higher word counts most days, but still running into productivity issues with research, worldbuilding, and silly mistakes.

Season 1: Episode 4: Learning Who My Characters Are

This week's writing was challenging. The list of what needs to be fixed, rethought, or answered is getting longer, but pushing through the messy process of writing is at least helping me get to know who my characters are a little better, which will make it easier to correct parts that don't make sense and help me move forward with plotting and storytelling.

Season 1, Episode 5: Worldbuilding and Answering Questions

Writing was on pause this week while I was out of town, but thinking about the story, the world of the investigators, and the long list of problems and questions about the story, world, and characters were on my mind. In this episode, I talk about the new ideas and what will hopefully be solutions to things that have been bothering me about the story and worldbuilding.

Season 1, Episode 6: Revising and Rethinking

As I'm working on revisions of the previous chapters to get them in line with new ideas for the story, it's pushed me to think more critically about my past and current writing. A lot has changed in my life that has influenced not only what and how I write, but how I think about the writing process.

Season 1, Episode 7: Trying to Get Back on Track

After two weeks of struggling to wrap up revisions and get some new content written, I finally managed to get a week's worth of writing done to have a full episode. This week I talk about struggling to get out of revision mode and back to creating new content, as well as some surprises that popped up while writing this week.

Season 1, Episode 8: Full restart

Almost a year later, I am finally getting back to writing and taking a look at this project. In the intervening time, a lot has changed despite very little writing taking place. Problems I had been having with the story has led to a major split in how this story will be told, and I mean than in the most literal sense. This means scrapping a lot, but it will hopefully also mean significant improvements.

Season 1, Episode 9: A New Karmic Start

While I haven't had time to record lately, I did actually get some writing done. I restarted the karmic side of the story and am making some fun discoveries about who the main character is and how the tone of the story is changing as ideas begin to come together about the story and the worlds.

Season 1, Episode 10: Planting Seeds of Conflict

I have actually gotten some writing done, but didn't have time to record. This episode is one of several to catch up on progress of the chapters on both projects, and honestly to remind me of what I wrote so I could get back to it after taking a break to wrap up some work for clients. As I looked back at chapters 2 and 3 of the not-karmic side of things, I analyzed how I'm worldbuilding in this story to start embedding hints at the problems that will soon start coming to light.
